Artist Statement

I am seeking to depict the beauty in the textural richness which I find everywhere around me: in the marks left in asphalt from street repairs, in the play of light on city buildings, in aged lacquer boxes, and in the charred bark of tree trunks. Carefully controlled color harmonies, using a limited palette specific to each painting, can vary from subtle grays to vivid, saturated colors. Influences from Asian art are also found in some of my paintings; metaphor is increasingly present as well.
